SMARKTEC Vision Systems

SMARKTEC Vision Systems comprehends a range of automatic and integrated solutions that are designed to automatically capture the 2D codes on the marked products: pipes, billets, coils, etc.

The final objective of the vision systems is to automatically track the single object throughout the manufacturing process, so that the quality and characteristics of the final product can be fully guaranteed. Traceability is a must for high quality manufacturers, who address sectors as demanding as oil & gas, automotive or aerospace for example and for those of which are seeking to embrace the Industry 4.0 strategy.

SMARKTEC’s single object automatic traceability provides the company with the necessary process information towards big data analytics. The generation of these data will support the company in better understanding its internal processes and providing the customer with the necessary manufacturing information. This is one of the main pillars within the Industry 4.0 strategy.

The location of the 2D codes that have to be captured by the machine vision systems is not always know. For this reason, SMARKTEC has developed the following reading solutions that overcome this problem:


Product 1: Single camera machine vision system

Single camera: a single camera vision system intended to read the 2D codes on individual pipes when the position of the code is known (reading on the fly) or is within a certain longitude range on the pipe (pipe needed to spin).

The main characteristics of the single camera vision system are the following.

  • Reading static or On-the-fly up to 2 m/sec.
  • Pipe movement can be longitudinal with the 2D on a fixed orientation or spinning the pipe around to find the 2D code
  • Including a Matrix type camera (Optionally a linear camera)
  • Including Domo type lighting and filter to prevent tubular reflections
  • Including air blowing nozzle for automatic lens cleaning
  • Optionally, a mill air cleaning and drying device
  • Control cabinet including Industrial PC, Gigabit connection to the camera and Level 2 data communication.
  • SMARKTEC software to adjust camera and 2D decoding
  • CE and UL certified

Product 2: Multiple Camera Lineal Machine Vision System

Multiple camera vision system: a multiple camera (up to 6) vision system to read the 2D codes on individual pipes when entering the heat treatment furnace.

The main characteristics of the multiple camera vision system are the following:

  • Pipe movement is elliptical, it spins around its axis while it is moving longitudinally, with the 2D code marked on any position and orientation on the pipe
  • Reading On-the-fly up to 2 m/sec.
  • Including up 6 Matrix type cameras.
  • Including domo type lighting and filters for each camera to prevent tubular reflections and avoid loss of traceability
  • Including air blowing nozzles for automatic lens cleaning
  • Optionally, a mill air cleaning and drying device
  • Control cabinet including Industrial PC, Gigabit connection to the 6 cameras and Level 2 data communication.

  • CE and UL certified

Product 3: Multiple Camera Vision Tunnel

Vision Tunnel: A 6 camera vision system covering the whole circumference of the pipe, intended to read 2D codes on individual pipes while being conveyed.

The main characteristics of the vision tunnel are the following:

  • Pipe movement is longitudinal while it advances, with the 2D code marked on any position and orientation on the pipe
  • Reading On-the-fly up to 2 m/sec.
  • Including a heavy duty steel structure to hold the tunnel
  • Including a servo-pneumatic elevation system to center the tunnel to the pipe center on the conveyor
  • Including 6 Matrix type cameras.
  • Including 6 Ring Led lighting and filters to prevent tubular reflections.
  • Including air blowing nozzles for automatic lens cleaning
  • Control cabinet including Industrial PC, Gigabit connection to the 6 cameras and Level 2 data communication.
  • SMARKTEC software to adjust cameras and 2D decoding
  • CE and UL certified

Product 4: Handheld vision system

The main characteristics of this reading system are the following:

  • Symbol-Motorola smart PDA
  • SMARKTEC 2D reading App for Android
  • Autofocus function and wide screen to see the 2D code we read and avoid tubular reflections
  • Zoom function
  • Led lighting function for night / dark environments
  • (Keyboard emulation) Bluetooth communication with PC
  • Prefix & Suffix editing function for the data string to be sent to the PC
  • Optionally customizable App for different data communication needs

Product 5: Robot vision system

This reading station is designed to track the individual pipe throughout the whole production process at the Heat Treatment (HT), Casing and Ultrasonic Test (UT).

Why robotics for a vision system?

  • When using Hi-resolution Linear cameras to scan the surface around while the pipe spins around
  • To move the cameras to the right focal distance depending on the pipe’s diameter
  • To move the camera to different slots along the Pipe
  • To move the camera to the Auto -teaching station for the robot
  • To have a flexible reach for multiple pipe stations
